Honourees

Each year at Rockin' for Research, JDRF and the Vancouver Chapter pay tribute to an individual or corporation that has demonstrated an outstanding degree of support through their involvement and overall philanthropic giving to the foundation.

This year it is with great pleasure that we announce our 2011 Gala Honouree – TD Bank Group.

TD began its relationship with JDRF in 2003 as a supporter of the Walk to Cure Diabetes and their support of JDRF has expanded to include the Ride for Diabetes Research. They became a leader in team fundraising for the Ride for Diabetes Research and have cumulatively raised over $3.2 million nationally, including more than $405,000 in B.C.  TD has won the Ride Team Spirit Award, VIP of the Year Award, the Outstanding Initiative Award and for two years in a row TD was also the winner of the Ride Corporate Spirit Cup for the top fundraising company.

Last year was TD’s best year yet for the Vancouver Ride, with 95 teams and 475 participants raising over $165,000! The Ride for Diabetes Research raised $7 million across Canada in 2010, with TD raising $1.2 million across the country. 

Jim Kershaw, Senior Vice-President and Regional Manager at TD, has been involved in the Ride Cabinet since 2005 and has been chair / co-chair since 2008.  Jim is joined by a number of TD executives and employees in Vancouver who help support JDRF’s mission to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
